Founded in July 1996, the
Department is the first academic department of marketing and
distribution management in Taiwan. It was established to meet
the drastic needs for people possessing managerial capabilities
in domestic industries, and to sufficiently prepare Taiwan for
the paradigm shifts as industries march into the 21st century.
As a matter fact, in the manufacturing distribution chain,
marketing has long become the link with the highest added value.
Since the post-industrial age, even for leading industrial
nations such as the U.S., Japan and European countries,
marketing has inevitably became the primary orientation for
industrial development. Therefore, the department was
established not only to deliver a rigorous professional training
program tailored to the needs of students within the
technological and vocational education system, but also to get
students ready and qualified for the job markets.
Coursework at the Department is divided into Marketing Planning
and Distribution Operations, with a focus on Marketing
Management. The Department provides the students with concepts
and practical skills in marketing, with diverse focuses on
marketing planning practice, applying POS (point of sale),
market-cultivating, e-commerce, franchised chain enterprise
management and retailing management. The goal is to ensure that
graduates of the Department demonstrate the steepest learning
curve at companies they work in and prove themselves to be
winners in the job market with solid grounding in both theory
and practice. To achieve this goal, the Department has
implemented education innovations such as, Guidance Growth Camp,
Sandwich Education, and Apprenticeship Teaching so that students
can be most efficiently qualified for job markets. To cope with
such extraordinary demands, faculty members are expected to
possess rich business or industry experiences and academic
credentials in marketing or related areas. At present, there are
18 tenured professors at the Department, 16 of which obtained a
Ph. D. and 2 a Master's degree and it will reach a size of 22 in
the next two years.
The Department currently offers two two-year college program
classes. Since August 1998, the Department started to offer
Master program, Master special course of study program,
credit-certificate program, with students reaching a total of
94. In order to fully develop the education of distribution, the
Ministry of Education has approved our Department to offer
four-year college program in year 2000.
